Sometimes my face breaks out and I never know why. Either its that time of the month ;) , I'm touching my face with my dirty hands too much, or it's time to clean my makeup brushes. Many Cosmetologists say that it's good to clean your makeup tools weekly, but I am lazy and don't have time, so I do it every other month. Or when my face starts to break out, which is bad.
I challenge you to try these steps on how to clean your makeup brushes. So you can see for yourself the amount of dirt and caked makeup that your essentially applying to your face everyday when you don't clean your tools.
What you will need: Pot of boiling water, hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol, mild non-scented soap, a towel, and a bowl or large glass to fit your brushes.
1. Gather all your makeup brushes.
2. Boil a pot of water.
3. Add some Hydrogen Peroxide or Rubbing Alcohol to your hot water.
4. Place you makeup brushes in a bowl. Let it sit in the water for 10-15 mins.
5. Empty out the water and fill the bowl up with fresh water. Pump some soap into your hands and lather it into the brushes.
6. Then let the brushes sit in the bowl for another 10-15 mins. Note that all the dirt coming off your makeup brushes are: old makeup, dirt and debris, bacteria, oils, and dead skin cells. Disgusting right?
7. Rinse the brushes off until no more color runs off of them. Then lay them on a towel or paper towel overnight to dry.
There you have it, nice clean makeup brushes. By washing them frequently it helps keep the brushes in good condition and provides years of great use.
